Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk & Festival

Join in the Hounds on the Sounds Dog Walk and Festival
in New Rochelle on Sun., Oct. 6 and show off your own four-legged friend while
helping those who are still waiting for a home of their own.

Hundreds of walkers and their dogs will take a leisurely
1.5-mile stroll along Long Island Sound as they walk the perimeter of Glen
Island Park. Dog lovers are invited to register
for the fifth annual walk and get pledges of support from family and friends. You
can also just show up to walk and pay the $25 registration fee ($40 for
a family). The event is a fundraiser for the New Rochelle Humane Society and
Pet Rescue of Larchmont, with some of the proceeds going to the Mount Vernon
Animal Shelter.

Activities will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Dog
Walk starting at 11:30 a.m. After the procession, everyone is invited to stick
around for a fun (and free) afternoon at the park.  Browse the wares of two dozen vendors (with
lots of dog-related merchandise), listen to music and enjoy refreshments such
as burgers, home-baked treats and ice cream. Get a take-home photo of you and your
dog posing at the water’s edge, get a balloon shaped like a dog, watch an
agility demonstration, and stop by the “kiddie korner” for some face painting, a
game of musical chairs or a best trick competitions. New this year: "My
Dog Can Do That!" where you can run your dog through an agility
course with a professional trainer.
