Cutting-Edge Three Dimensional Mammography Now Available at Rye Facility

Rye Radiology is one of the first locations in Westchester to offer the new, more detailed mammography reading.

Rye Radiology Associates, LLP., recently became the first facility between Manhattan and Syracuse to offer the new FDA-approved 3D mammography which finds more breast cancers than traditional mammography.

3D mammography finds more breast cancers in all breast types, especially dense breasts. 3D mammography takes millimeter-thin images through the entire breast, increasing accuracy and helping the radiologist better discern between cancer and normal, harmless breast densities.

“In my 38 years of practicing radiology, I believe 3D mammography is the most significant breakthrough in breast cancer screening. Early studies have found that this technology finds more breast cancers with less false positives than the usual 2D views, “ said Dr. Diane LoRusso, breast imaging specialist and co-founder of Rye Radiology. “The patient has the same experience as a traditional mammogram. The only difference she notices is that the x-ray tube moves while she is being compressed. The thin images that result are sharper and clearer. ”

“We do everything we can to make preventive screening and diagnostic mammography a positive experience for our patients. We give the patients immediate diagnostic work-up if any abnormality is found and all patients get their results the same day, before they leave the office,” said Dr. Gail Calamari, Rye Radiology breast imaging specialist and neuroradiologist.

Both Drs. LoRusso and Calamari have received Castle Connolly “Top Doctor” awards based on ratings by their fellow physicians.

“We are actually seeing thin layers of the breast tissue rather than seeing overlap of tissue. It’s like being able to scroll through the breast like pages of a book and more easily identify abnormalities in the breast structure,” said Dr. Calamari.

“The accuracy of 3D results in fewer additional mammography views and work-up of benign densities which is a relief to many patients,” said Dr. LoRusso. “The procedure takes about 12 seconds.”

She added, “We are committed to our patients and, by offering 3D, we are bringing them the latest breakthrough in mammography.”

Rye Radiology offers same day emergency appointments during business hours and next-day service for non-emergencies. In addition to offering 3D and 2D digital mammograms, Rye Radiology is a full-service imaging facility with breast ultrasound; breast MRI; breast biopsies utilizing stereotactic guidance; ultrasound guidance or MRI guidance; Multi-slice CT scans; body, neurologic and orthopedic MRI’s (open and high field); general ultrasound; bone density exams and general x-ray.

Good question Allison, especially the STATE tax base. After all, Boston Post Road is a STATERead More highway, and any changes made to Boston Post Road will be decided upon and paid for by the STATE.

Well there is definitely more community disapproval with the current plans then there is support. ARead More possible suggestion for the developer may be to cut the plans from 120 units to 60 units with no more then 120 parking spaces . The community is worried about the proposed plan with the idea of adding 240 to 250 additional cars a day causing congestion with respect to traffic. The developer can set aside funds to pay for a daily rush hour bus to bring his new tenants to the trains to cut down on an increase in traffic. The developer to gain public approval should give up on any non access to private roads or it maybe in the interest of the community to make some of their roads which are currently public into private roads whereby no one heading to the golf course or the condominiums could cross these private roads thereby making access to the condominiums quite difficult. As far as a gain in the tax base. with any development where there are no tax abatements, it may appear that tax revenues may increase , however it may turn out to be a zero sum game, where the additional revenue pays for new public sector costs that will come with this project from garbage, water service, police , education, and any and all other public sector costs. With development it is better for the developer to become part of the community . Orienta has great characteristics. Many in this community would like the developer to search for the mean between the extremes with respect to development.
