PACE 92nd Street Y Performance Apt Farewell for Retiring Teachers

Two Mamaroneck High School (MHS) student choreographers will present their work at the 92nd Street Y in NYC.

Taking the performing arts to new levels—in typical MHS fashion—two choreographers from the PACE Program will showcase their works at the world famous 92nd Street Y in New York City.

The two dances were choreographed earlier in the school year by MHS senior Danielle Rome and junior Allison Podolsky for Kinesthesia, the school's annual dance-only performance. The two pieces were submitted and accepted into a juried competition for modern dance and will see a revival performance on Sunday, April 17. Danielle and Allison will be sharing the moment with the 10 dancers performing in the works.

Performing Arts Curriculum Experience (PACE), is a "curricular elective program" offered at the high school that guides students through four years of involvement in music, theater, and dance. While the year seems to be ending on a high note with upcoming performances and the 92nd Street Y showcase, the program will also have a bittersweet farewell at the end of the year as Martie Barylick, head of the PACE dance, and John Fredricksen, head of PACE theatre, take their final bow into retirement at the end of the year.

Patch caught up with the two student choreographers along with Barylick during a practice earlier this week to talk about the upcoming spotlight performance and the departure of the two teachers who played such an intricate role in their high school careers.
