On Friday, Get in on the Joke at the Globe

Friday July 9th, Jonathan Morvay returns to Larchmont with an all-new lineup of comics.

What's more fun in summer than kicking back and having some laughs—and lots of them? You can find that fun right here on Friday, July 9, when Larchmont's Jonathan Morvay returns to the Globe after sharpening his skills--and contacts-- in Los Angeles and New York City.

The "Summer Show" delivers some important firsts for this 24-year-old entrepreneur. Drinking an iced tea at the Globe's bar on Sunday afternoon, Morvay discussed his news.

"This is by far the biggest show, with the strongest lineup of comics  I've had so far," Morvay says of his show's fifth Globe booking this year. He anticipates an audience of over eighty. He'll MC and perform with five comics, many of whom are already making their names on TV.

It's also the first time that his show has included two female comics. "People think comedy is a boys club, but these two women prove that they can be just as funny, if not funnier, than the guys," says Morvay of one of his goals, which has been to have more women on the bill.

The lineup is in their twenties and early thirties, and is the most diverse yet in terms of delivery, he  says. "I wanted make sure that each comic brings a completely different style to the show."

Meet the jokers

Headlining the show is Rob O'Reilly, who has appeared on Comedy Central 's "Live at Gotham," and was a recent contestant on NBC's Last Comic Standing. "Rob's gift is word play," says Morvay.

Christian Polanco, whose forte is improv, has a successful show at St. Mark's Theatre in New York City on the first Wednesday of every month.

Christi Chiello, whose voice hails from "Munchkin Land," says Morvay, has a popular YouTube video called "The Really Cool Show."

Ophira Eisenberg has been on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend."

Sheng Wang has also appeared on "Live at Gotham." "He's from San Francisco, where he was a top comic, and has blown up big in the city—everybody wants him."

Jonathan Morvay, says Morvay, "Is probably the best comic to come out of Larchmont other than Joan Rivers, and without plastic surgery. He's a genius and a prodigy."

Morvay on-the-go

Morvay, who has only been doing stand-up for a year-and-a-half, sent  a performance tape to California bookers, and his phone rang.

He moved to LA in May, and found himself on the same bill as Jeff Garlin, from "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and on stages up the coast to San Francisco.

Morvay graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2008, and worked in sports journalism in Florida for a short while.  "My stories were too sarcastic," he said of his baseball coverage.

He went to a comedy club during that time, recognized his writing style in the material, and switched careers.

Morvay returned to home base in June, writing for Punchline Magazine, and looking for writing jobs in TV and online. He'll be doing monthly or seasonal shows at the Globe.

True to his trade, he's looking for a cheap New York City apartment, "So I can move out of my parents' house," he says. It was most rough living there before April, when NY Mets Jason Bay moved nearby. "It's nice now to finally get some sleep and not have paparazzi flashbulbs going off in my face all the time," kids Morvay with wishful thinking.

Sample some jokes leaked just to Patch

Wondering what's in store? The comics previewed jokes just for Patch.

Rob

I met this French girl who was like, "My name's Fleurir, it means 'to blossom.'"  I was like, "My name's Rob. It means, 'to steal.'"

Christi

I was in Brooklyn the other day and saw a grown Latino man riding a BMX bicycle and hollering at some high school girls and I just thought to myself...To be young again.

Ophira

There's a small window of time after a fresh bikini wax to get your money's worth. I'm half Israeli, so I've got 40 minutes.

Jonathan

I feel bad for my friend in a wheelchair 'cause there's a country club in our town and he can't get in. It's handicap accessible, but they don't allow Jews.

Christian

A recent men's health study says that men who stare at women's breasts live longer. After tests, they concluded that staring at breasts for 10 minutes was the equivalent of 30 minutes of exercise. So as soon as I read that, I immediately cancelled my gym membership.
