LMC-TV Stages Annual Awards Night

LMC-TV, the public access television station serving Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and Rye Neck, held its 21st annual Awards Show at the Emelin Theatre on Thursday night, April 28.

The jokes were flying from all directions at the , but the presenters and several hundred audience members also performed the serious business of honoring the best and brightest offerings of , the public access television station founded in 1983 and based in Mamaroneck.

The program at times represented a comedic roast, with performers poking fun at themselves as well as their fellow presenters. Age, height, and general competence were not off-limits, and the evening even featured an actual stand-up comedian—15-year-old Mark Hassenfratz—a student at . Hassenfratz skewered dentists, hipsters, and others during his set, but he also poked fun at himself, noting that he had no choice but to pursue stand-up comedy because it was the first and only thing he’s ever been good at.

The father-daughter team of Vincent Graziano, owner of in Mamaroneck, and his daughter, Jennifer Graziano Mangano, emceed the event. Christina DeLeon, who was crowned Miss Westchester 2011 last year, served as hostess. The Still Tryin’ musical duo warmed up the crowd on banjo and keyboard, and also employed lots of self-deprecating humor. When asking the audience for requests, they added that they meant requests besides, “get off the stage and don’t come back.”

DeLeon, who has expressed interest in protecting the rights of students with disabilities, was the perfect hostess, according to Erik Lewis, LMC-TV’s executive director. “It’s fitting that Ms. DeLeon’s interests coincide with LMC-TV’s programming,” Lewis said, “because one of nominated shows, ‘As You Are,' is about the rights of students with disabilities.”

In fact, Sharon Mosley’s “As You Are” was not only a nominee, it was a winner in the category of Best Series, in a tie with Joel Trieger’s “Sculpture By Joel.”

Mosley thanked her husband, Mike, for his support, her daughter Shannon, and her volunteer crew for working for pizza, “or when I don’t have any money, they work without pizza.”

Other winners included Remy Litvin for the Joseph P. Fraioli Volunteer of the Year Award; Jeffrey Eisenband for the Val Estabrook Award for Outstanding Work in School Video; Lynne Crowley for the Best Public Service Announcement; Sylvania Azevedo and Mariana Boneo Lvoff for Best Single Program; “Off the Shelf” for Best New Series; and Maeve Sanches and Andrey Gordon for Best Community Event Videography.

The Mary Anne Sullivan Award for Overall Achievement in Community Television went to the Her Honor Mentoring program, which was founded by Judy Sheindlin of “Judge Judy,” her stepdaughter Nicole Sheindlin of Larchmont, and Patricia Lanza of the Lanza Family Foundation.

Nicole Sheindlin accepted the award, as well as proclamations from State Sen. Suzi Oppenheimer and State Assemblyman George Latimer. While presenting the Assembly’s proclamation immediately after a representative of Oppenheimer presented one from the State Senate, Latimer stuck with the evening’s comedic theme, saying his proclamation was proof that, “the State Assembly sometimes does do the same thing as the State Senate.”

Guest presenters included Larchmont Mayor Josh Mandell, Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum (by video), Town of Mamaroneck Councilwoman Nancy Seligson, and Emily Dombroff, a teacher at Mamaroneck High School.

Tickets for a 50/50 raffle to support the station were sold at the awards show. Tickets may be purchased from now through the month of June; the winner will be announced live on LMC-TV at the Firemen’s Parade on June 29. Visit the station’s website here for more information.
