The Hispanic Resource Center's Annual Benefit Fiesta

Since 1998, The Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck has been helping immigrants successfully integrate into their new community.

The wide variety of programs offered by the center include, English as a Second Language classes, career training, health and nutrition guidance, assistance with finding secure housing and food, and immigration services.

This year, the HRC will host their benefit Fiesta on Friday, Nov. 12 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club.

"We are thrilled to recognize the Piersons for their support of the HRC and the Worker Center. With their help, the HRC was able to move to its own space on Mamaroneck Avenue, closer to the community we serve with all our services and programs under one roof," says Zoe Colon, the HRC's executive director.

The HRC's case management and administrative services were formerly located in the basement of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Worker Center was headquartered at Strait Gate Church.

According to Nancy Pierson, "Living in, traveling to and going on mission trips in the Caribbean, Central and South America made us realize how much our family has and the challenge that life can be in other countries. We appreciate the difficult decisions to leave a home and country in search of a better life for one's family. Being an immigrant is difficult enough without speaking the language or having sufficient education, let alone encountering prejudice and persecution. We are thrilled to know that our contribution helps give the HRC the stability and resources so that the staff and volunteers can concentrate on meeting the needs of the newest members of our community."

Nancy Pierson, who is currently a member of the Board of Education and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church Women grants committee, was also co-president of SEPTA, the Mamaroneck High School PTSA and the school district PT Council.

Frank Pierson has been a Vestry member and treasurer of St. John's Church, served on the board (including president) of United Way of Larchmont-Mamaroneck, and has offered his services to Bridges to Community and Midnight Run.

"Both of our great grandparents were immigrants. We appreciate the opportunities that were given to them so that we could have the life we've had. We were delighted to have the chance to give back." states Nancy Pierson.
