The Art of Louis Del Guercio at the Larchmont Public Library

The Larchmont Public Library presents “Scenes of Larchmont and Premium Mill Pond”, an exhibit featuring the paintings of Louis Del Guercio in the Library’s Oresman Gallery from September 1, through September 30, 2011. The exhibit is free and open to everyone during normal library hours. There will be an artist’s reception celebrating Mr. Del Guercio on Saturday, September 10, from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. The reception is also free and everyone is welcome.

Mr. Del Guercio is a retired surgeon, who until 2001 served as Chief of Surgery at Westchester Medical Center. He grew up in Larchmont and attended Chatsworth Avenue School, Mamaroneck High School, Fordham College and the Yale University School of Medicine.

Del Guercio is primarily a self-taught artist whose artistic interests began under the tutelage of Mrs. Grace Winters in elementary school. His interest led him to research books and magazines as well as attend art galleries. In college, he published pen and ink sketches in the student magazine and after completing medical school, he supplemented his income by doing surgical illustrations for textbooks and medical journals.

Following retirement, Del Guercio started working in oils attempting to emulate the artistic style of the famous painter, Edward Hopper. The subject matter for his landscapes and seascapes are scenes from around his home on the Premium Mill Pond. At the 2006 Larchmont Historical Society public art auction, his painting titled “Red Bridge Fisher Boys” garnered the top sale.
