Larchmont Woman's Club Philanthropic Luncheon

Larchmont Woman’s Club Plans Much More Than a Luncheon

The public is invited to the Orienta Beach Club April 6 for the annual fund-raising luncheon, auction, raffle and shopping festival of the Larchmont Woman’s Club.  Relying on each other instead of outside vendors, Woman’s Club members donate jewelry, home decor items and gifts from their own homes for an upscale boutique. They also bring homemade sweets and savories to tempt shoppers plus lavish gourmet gift baskets for a raffle.

The business community pitches in too by contributing dozens of gift certificates to restaurants and shops for a lively silent auction. Co-chairs Valerie O’Keeffe and Roberta Ronan report that this year all the action will be topped with a musical presentation by the Songpipers, a well-known women’s choral group based in Bronxville.

Since its inception, the 86-year-old club has worked for the betterment of the community. Funds raised at the luncheon have been distributed in the past to several other community organizations and service groups, including the Hispanic Resource Center, Larchmont Friends of the Family, I CARE, Cancer Support Team, Hunger Task Force and My Sisters’ Place.

Boutique donations are also accepted from the general public – antique, almost new and new items, including jewelry. The economic downturn has helped people see the merit in living with less “stuff.”   This luncheon offers an opportunity to free up drawers and shelves of small items not in use by giving them to a good cause. (No clothes or kitchenware, please.) Call Fran Fanelli at 834-0968 for drop-off information. Cost of the event, which starts at 11:00 a.m. is $40. Reservations are required by March 30.  Call Nancy Jones at 834-0606 for details.  For information about the club, see www.WomansClubofLarchmont.org
