LARCHMONT HISTORICAL SOCIETY and CLARKE AUCTION TO HOST ANTIQUES APPRAISAL DAY
Last year, near the end of the very busy, fun and successful Larchmont Historical Society’s "Antiques Appraisal Day," an excited hush fell over the group of professional appraisers gathered at Clarke Auction. A couple came in with what appeared to be two long-lost landscape paintings by Jasper Cropsey, a renowned 19th Century artist of the Hudson River School. As Ron Clarke carefully studied the paintings that had for decades hung unrecognized in a basement rec room, the thrill of the “Antiques Roadshow” moment took over. The excitement was warranted: two months later, Clarke Auction held the sale where the paintings sold for $840,000!
