Behind the Scenes With the Semi-Royal Shakespeare Company At MHS

Patch was invited to one of the rehearsals where we had a first hand look at the chaotic work the students put in to make the production a yearly success.

Audiences will have their choice of drama or comedy when the curtains up for The Semi-Royal Shakespeare Company's 2011 season with performances of King Lear and Twelfth Night.

While most would agree that one theatre production is enough of a challenge, the students at Mamaroneck High School rehearse two plays with both productions having two sets of casts. An impressive feat that even shares the same director, Dee O’Brien, a former English teacher in the district who formed the Company in 1976.

The Semi-Royal Shakespeare Company is, "the oldest continuous high school Shakespeare troupe in the United States," according to the Mamaroneck School District and is a joint effort of students, teachers and parents dedicating their time and passion into the production.
