A mix of heavy rains and thunderstorms could result in serious flash and urban flooding in areas throughout Westchester County and the greater New York City region starting late Friday afternoon and into early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch that covers all of Westchester County and the Tri-State area.

With the region already soaked from rains earlier this week, some 1 to 2 inches of additional heavy rain is expected to fall — with locally higher amounts possible in some areas during the storm, the NWS reports.

There is an increased threat of significant urban flooding, along with flooding of -low-lying and poor drainage areas," the meteorologists warn in their report. New York Yankees fans, the team's Friday night game against the Pirates has already been postponed, according to the team's website

"During Saturday morning, the bulk of the showers and thunderstorms will shift to the north and east across New England," wrote AccuWeather.com on its website. "Travel conditions will improve and there should be no problems for outdoor activities on Saturday."

Patch Editor Alfred Branch contributed to this report.
