The following is an update of the status of Post-Sandy recovery in the Village of Mamaroneck.

Electricity Restoration efforts:

Everyone should be aware that electricity restoration efforts are continuing.  The village was informed this morning that we had no restoration crews operating in the Village of Mamaroneck, while there were still between 900 and 1,000 customer accounts without power.  At that point, the village contacted Con Edison’s Corporate Office, County Emergency Services, the County Executive’s Office, the Governor’s Office, the New York State Public Service Commission and Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s Office.  We also instituted a village-wide request for residents to contact Con Edison and contact the Public Service Commission.

In response to our efforts, the village did receive a crew assigned back to the Village of Mamaroneck.  The crew assigned to us has been able to improve the situation and restored electricity to several hundred customers in the village.  At this time, we are informed that the number of Con Edison customer accounts without electricity dropped to close to 500 by the end of today, which is roughly six percent of the village remaining without power.  We are continuing to focus our efforts having electricity restored to all remaining outages in the village.

We recommend that the single most important thing at this point is if you have no electricity, all you should residents to call the Con Edison Customer Service hotline, at 1-800-752-6633 (1-800-75-CONED) at least once every day  if your electricity is still out.

Emergency:  Our state of emergency continues indefinitely.

Shelters:  The VFW Shelter is closing, but the Hampshire Country Club remains open on a limited basis.

Restoration and Repairs:

The village and higher levels of government, such as the New Yok State DEC, are expediting permits and authorizations for repairs to storm damaged structures and properties.  All village fees are waived, but permits are still required from the Building Department.  If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the Mamaroneck Village Building Department at 914-777-7731.

Weather:

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), no significant weather events are expected over the next several days, except for a steady warming trend that is projected to reach the upper 60s this Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, the day Veteran’s Day is observed.

Good question Allison, especially the STATE tax base. After all, Boston Post Road is a STATERead More highway, and any changes made to Boston Post Road will be decided upon and paid for by the STATE.

Well there is definitely more community disapproval with the current plans then there is support. ARead More possible suggestion for the developer may be to cut the plans from 120 units to 60 units with no more then 120 parking spaces . The community is worried about the proposed plan with the idea of adding 240 to 250 additional cars a day causing congestion with respect to traffic. The developer can set aside funds to pay for a daily rush hour bus to bring his new tenants to the trains to cut down on an increase in traffic. The developer to gain public approval should give up on any non access to private roads or it maybe in the interest of the community to make some of their roads which are currently public into private roads whereby no one heading to the golf course or the condominiums could cross these private roads thereby making access to the condominiums quite difficult. As far as a gain in the tax base. with any development where there are no tax abatements, it may appear that tax revenues may increase , however it may turn out to be a zero sum game, where the additional revenue pays for new public sector costs that will come with this project from garbage, water service, police , education, and any and all other public sector costs. With development it is better for the developer to become part of the community . Orienta has great characteristics. Many in this community would like the developer to search for the mean between the extremes with respect to development.

David , can you please explain how having a luxury condominium building increases the tax base?
