Despite its name, the Larchmont Newcomers’ Club has quietly welcomed new residents of Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and, of course, Larchmont, to the Sound Shore area for five decades, advertising mostly through word of mouth and flyers distributed locally.
But word has spread, and the not-for-profit organization currently has over 220 families participating in the numerous social events and activities that the Newcomers’ Club coordinates in order to connect community members the old-fashioned way: in person.
“Most members are either new to the area or have been in the area for a few years,” said Publicity Director Sari Sternschein.
According to a press release sent out by the organization, there are approximately 20 social events that take place annually for men, women, children and families, including luncheons, cocktails and apple picking at Stuart’s Farm in Granite Springs, NY.
But if being active means participating in activities to you, the Newcomers’ Club has a variety of interest groups including book clubs, French conversation and mahjong as well as playgroups for children and men’s basketball and softball.
On Sept. 8, the Club will host a family picnic/kick-off event at in Larchmont, with pizza, music from and a special appearance by Mary Poppins. The event is $8 per person; children under 2 years of age will not pay admission.
A family membership to the Larchmont Newcomers’ Club is $55 annually for the first year; $35 per year after three years of membership. A single membership is $35 per year; $23 after three years. To join, please visit the Club’s website here and on Facebook here.
