“An environmental group worried about cars parking in an ecologically fragile area behind Playland Amusement Park in Rye has withdrawn its support for the park's proposed overhaul.
The Friends of Edith Read Wildlife Sanctuary said Sustainable Playland Inc., the nonprofit chosen by Westchester County to manage the park, is now proposing to use a gravel lot and a grassy field next to Long Island Sound for parking every summer weekend instead of just on busy holidays.

"In view of this reversal of your stated intent, the (friends group) cannot support SPI's proposal for the future of Playland," president Lorraine Kennery wrote last month to Kim Morque, Sustainable's president.”
