Larchmont Public Library Joins Forces with the Westchester Children's Museum

LARCHMONT, NY – Beginning in July and continuing in August, the Larchmont Public Library’s Burchell Children’s Room will combine the popular “Library Lab” program series with the Westchester Children’s Museum’s “Museum Without Walls” educational program. The result is a six-week series of science-based programming for children ages 8 to 11 that demonstrates core scientific principles through hands-on experiments. The experiments range from unraveling the mysteries of DNA to building model solar cars.  Arts and music programs delve into issues of cultural diversity, history and local traditions.  Each program seeks to help shape children’s knowledge, their world view, and ultimately, our future.

The series kicks off on Thursday, July 10, at 4:00pm, when the subject will be Solar Energy Race Cars. Kids will have the hands-on opportunity to build a solar powered car which they’ll actually race while learning about the basics of energy, discovering the difference between potential and kinetic energy. They will also investigate energy developed with solar panels.
