Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty Lists Historic Private Island Property

Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty announced today that the firm has listed a 1920s Tudor-inspired residence located in Larchmont, N.Y.’s private waterfront enclave of Cedar Island. Larchmont agent Mimi Magarelli has the listing, which is offered at $7,499,500.

The home was designed by architect Walter Karl Pleuthner, known for his Gothic and Tudor-style homes in Larchmont, Scarsdale and other areas of Westchester, and for his use of salvaged historical materials. The original owners, James and Minnie Adamson, were known to host Hollywood celebrities at the property, and their son, Harold Adamson, went on to compose music for films such as “An Affair to Remember” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.”

Situated on 1.26 acres, the 9,300 square-foot residence has six bedrooms and seven and a half baths. The home is one of four constructed in the 1920s on Cedar Island, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway. A substantial expansion was undertaken in 1999 by architects Wadia & Associates, who preserved many of the original features while incorporating modern amenities and technology.

“Immaculately refurbished and lavishly updated, this historic property promises an unsurpassed lifestyle,” said Magarelli. “The home enjoys a coveted location with breathtaking views of Larchmont Harbor and beyond to Long Island Sound, all just a 30-minute commute from New York City and within walking distance of the village.”

The home includes an oak-paneled vestibule with original round stained-glass windows, a grand reception foyer with sandstone fireplace, living room with marble fireplace and wall paneling, nautically inspired study, dining room separated from a sitting area by early 20th-century Art Nouveau wrought-iron gates, kitchen with high-end appliances, and master suite with marble bath and custom-fitted walk-in closet. Water views are found throughout. Outside, bluestone paths lead to a freeform pool surrounded by shrubbery and a large patio.
