John Smith Receives Charles J. Gronberg Award from Mamaroneck Larchmont Old Timers Athletic Association

The Mamaroneck Larchmont Old Timers Athletic Association recently held it's 3rd annual Octoberfest dinner. The Charles J. Gronberg Award (founding father) recipient was John Smith. John was  honored for his many years of service to the community and the Old Timers Association.

This was the 37th year that the Old Timers have presented this award and John  was the 41st winner. John was a lifetime resident of Mamaroneck until recently when he and his wife Lorraine of 49 years moved to Cape Cod. At RNHS  he played football and baseball and upon graduation he served his country on the USS Randolph aircraft carrier. John has served our community in many ways.... for 40 years as a volunteer fireman... a member of the Mamaroneck Parks and Recreation Commission... president and vice president the RNHS booster club.... and 25 year member and past president of the Old Timers.

To know why John was honored with this award is to look no further then the man himself..... selflessness is apparent throughout his life whether serving his country or pasta at the firehouse to one the local high school teams, John was always there when needed. Surrounded by family and friends John was humbled and grateful by the many kind speeches given by local politicians and members of the Old Timers.
