Mamaroneck, NY (June 18, 2012) – The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force is looking for volunteers to staff its Food Pantry this June – September.
“With school and summer vacations, we’ve lost many of our regular volunteers,” said Sarah Duffy Edwards, Volunteer Coordinator. “Unfortunately, hunger doesn’t take a vacation. “
Individuals and families with children over the age of eight are encouraged to volunteer for a biweekly Tuesday evening shift packing 350+ bags of groceries for Food Pantry clients. There is an acute need for strong individuals who can move heavy grocery bags during the evening shifts, as well as unload trucks on Tuesday mornings.
“We desperately need to fill these slots in order to ensure that our neighbors in need continue to receive food. We are currently providing food to about 1,200 people on average each time we are open,” Ms. Duffy Edwards added. “Volunteering at the Food Pantry in the summer is a meaningful way to give back to the community, while at the same time meeting school and community service requirements.”
The Food Pantry will be distributing groceries on June 26-27, July 10-11, July 24-25, August 14-15, August 28-29 and September 11-12. Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays for the 9:30-11:00am, 5:15 -6:30pm and 6:30-8:00pm shifts.
If you are interested, please call 698-3558 to leave information on your availability. Your call will be returned within a few days.
