School Board Meeting, Parkway Closures and Healthcare Exchanges

Here are a few of the things you need to know for Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.

1. Tuesday, Oct. 1 is the first day Americans can sign up for medical insurance plans through exchanges set up under the Affordable Care Act. For more information, see this article. Health navigators are available to help you through the process. There are three locations in New Rochelle: Westchester County Health Department, 7th floor, 145 Huguenot St., 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. , Monday through Friday, walk-in; Planned Parenthood, 247-249 North Ave., 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays, 914-813-5192, by appointment; New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plz., 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays, walk-in.

2. The Mamaroneck School District board of education will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the Library Classroom at the high school, 1000 West Boston Post Rd. The agenda can be found here

3. Find out what Common Core standards are and how they will affect your child in school Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Eye Level Learning Center, 1299-C North Ave. (Quaker Ridge Shopping Center) in New Rochelle. The free session starts at 7 p.m. Reservations are requested. Call 914-632-1047.

4. The nice weather continues. According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 79. Tuesday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 61.
