The Larchmont Public Library presents “The Book and the Movie”, a 2-part film and book discussion series beginning on January 10, 2012 at 10:00am led by Rob Goldstone. Beginning with a discussion about the book and the film that is being screened, Goldstone presents the back story for each film and relates unique, sometimes little-known anecdotes and trivia about the stars and about the making of the film.  The series will be held in the Larchmont Village Center located directly behind the library. The series is free and everyone is welcome. The library is located at 121 Larchmont Avenue in Larchmont, NY.

On January 10 at 10:00am, the program will feature the film “Random Harvest”. The film, based on the book "RANDOM HARVEST" by James Hilton, tells the story of a shell-shocked World War I solider (Ronald Coleman) who has amnesia and his wife (Greer Garson) who is trying the help him remember even though the doctors tell her not to. Nominated for 7 Academy awards including best picture and best actor (Ronald Coleman).

On February 14 at 10:00am, Goldstone presents classic 1941 film, "THE MALTESE FALCON", followed by a discussion of the film and the book by Dashiell Hammett. The film stars Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade who is on a quest to find The Maltese Falcon and the man who murdered his partner. The film's many twists and turns have riveted film audiences ever since its theatrical release 71 years ago. The film was nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including best picture and best screenplay (John Huston).

Rob Goldstone has been a Larchmont resident for forty-five years and has been a life-long film enthusiast. He has presented the Book and the Movie series many times and in many locations including presentations aboard the cruise ships of the Princess Line. His favorite film of all time is the Humphrey Bogart classic, “Casablanca” which he has seen over 140 times.
