 emoir\, The Ditchdigger&rsquo\;s Daughters\, will talk about her newest 
 memoir\, Something to Prove\, and her career on Thursday\, February 9 at
  6:30 p.m. in Slonim Living Room on the Sarah Lawrence College campus.\n
 &nbsp\;\nDr. Thornton is a double-board certified specialist in obstetri
 cs\, gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine and is a former departmental
  vice chair of OB/GYN at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York. Sh
 e is now a consultant in perinatology and clinical professor of obstetri
 cs and gynecology at New York Medical College in New York.\n&nbsp\;\nDr.
  Thornton is the first black woman in the United States to be board-cert
 ified in high-risk obstetrics. She was the first African-American woman 
 to be invited to become an oral examiner for the American Board of Obste
 trics and Gynecology and a life fellow of the New York Obstetrical Socie
 ty and the New York Academy of Medicine.\n&nbsp\;\nHer family memoir\, T
 he Ditchdigger&rsquo\;s Daughters\, was adapted into an award-winning mo
 vie and translated into 19 languages. Her new memoir entitled Something 
 To Prove\, was named the grand prize winner at the 2011 New York Book Fe
 stival. Her other books include Inside Information for Women\, Woman to 
 Woman and Primary Care of the Obstetrician and Gynecologist.\n&nbsp\;\nF
