Water Main Break in Eastchester Affects Larchmont and Mamaroneck

Customers in the area will feel the impact of the water main break near Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester.

Is your water sputtering when you turn the faucet or does it have a distinctive brown tinge?

Due to a water main break earlier today near Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, on the corner of Hilldale Place and White Plains Road, some Larchmont and Mamaroneck residents may be experiencing the frustrations of no water or water that is a muddied by sediment.

The leak was discovered this morning, said Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) Manager Anthony Conetta, when United Water, who services the Eastchester area, reported a possible water main break that wasn’t on their lines.

“We then checked out our 30” main, which is very deep, and it took time to get down to it because of the need to shore up the hole in order to ensure safety,” said Conetta, about the line that services the Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck and Town of Mamaroneck.

To avoid lengthy service interruptions, WJWW is rerouting water through other parts of their system and interconnections such as United Water.

“Once we isolate the pipe segment with the leak we will replace it.  We’re not yet sure how long this will take but during this time customers are expected to have water from other parts of WJWW’s system and interconnections,” said Conetta.

Hi Catherine,

If the water is brown or discolored, you shouldn't drink it. However, depending on the level of sediment, it may be OK to shower or wash your hands with it. Don't do laundry though-it will stain your clothes.

Best,

Stefani Kim
