The summer solstice marks the first official day of summer and rewards us with more daylight hours than any other day of the year. It occurs when the Sun is at its highest or most northerly point in the Northern Hemisphere. (See NASA’s solstice animationa view of the Earth during the Summer Solstice as seen from the Sun—OR—how you may have beaten former basketball super star Shaquille O’Neal during a game of one on one during Summer Solstice).
Since the days are getting shorter, is it incumbent upon us to enjoy every moment of summer daylight because the “days” are growing shorter? I’m thinking, “Yes.” Many people are doing just that. Summer has indeed arrived.
So get out there and enjoy it while you can—rainy days and all. Some of us have already been biking, sunning, picnicking, and thriving in those summer temperatures. Whatever you do, here comes the sun and I say…it’s all right.
