Bond resolutions for six capital projects totaling approximately $1.17 million were approved for the Town of Mamaroneck last week, including $430K for Phase 1 of an $1.8 million project to renovate Hommocks Ice Rink.

The improvement project—which will be completed in three phases to limit the amount of time the rink is closed—will include the replacement of decades-old equipment including a dehumidification system and roofing, which will minimize the loss of cold air.

“The ice rink is a very big profit center for the town,” said Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson, adding that the rink is not funded by property tax revenue. 

Funding for other capital projects was as follows:

• $210K – Replacement of two administrative vehicles ($50K) and computer equipment, including software ($160K).
• $50K – Repairs to Hommocks training and wading pools including replacement of bullnose stones surrounding pools
• $125K – Purchase of two-way radios for police fire and emergency departments as per the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Narrowbanding requirements that will require all emergency radios to be narrowbanded for more efficient data operations.  The requirement goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2013.
• $25K – Purchase of salt spreader to be mounted on a hybrid truck.
• $325K – Replacement of several highway vehicles including a heavy-duty utility truck, six-wheel dump truck and a passenger bus for the town’s Community Services Department.

The next Town Council meeting will be on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Town Center Courtroom.  There will be two public hearings on the proposed purchase of a new garbage truck for District 1 and reconstruction of the pump station at Baldwin Avenue.
