Almost a month after they were reelected, Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Norm Rosenblum and Deputy Mayor Lou Santoro were sworn in at the Emelin Theatre by former village justice Roger Sirlin.

Sirlin, a cousin of Rosenblum, is one of many family members who have served the village in years past. Rosenblum is a lifelong resident of the village; this is his second term in office as mayor.

Santoro, also a lifelong village resident, is not the first in his family to serve in political office; his Uncle Busty served as a former village manager.

It was a fine ceremony, an inauguration for both Mayor Norm Rosenblum and Trustee Lou Santoro into their second terms. It is noteworthy that the tone of the event was bi-partisan and cooperative: the incumbent three Democratic Trustees, the local Democratic Village Chair, and other elected Democrats - Town Supervisor-elect Nancy Seligson and Town Councilman Ernie Odierna - attended alongside prominent Republicans, to congratulate two Republicans, Norm and Lou, who were re-elected in a competitive race.

Mamaroneck Village, like Rye City (which has a bi-partisan Inauguration of newly elected Council members scheduled for Jan. 1) and Rye Town, recognizes that when elections are finally decided, both parties come together. There are, and will always be competition and differences between political parties - but last night's ceremony reflected that we do rise above those differences to celebrate what we have in common.

Every community should have a bi-partisan Inauguration tradition.

Good luck to Norm and Lou, and the Village.

It truly reflects the best of our village when we all come together amiably and when we all work together for the greater good. Cheers to Mamaroneck Village and our bright future!

I don't think the general public really cares about swearing in ceremonies and whether all the politicos smiled and shook hands with each other. The public cares about sensible government, sound fiscal management and good laws being enacted. At the end of the day citizens care about results and they are not concerned whether the votes were 5-0, 4-1, 3-2.
I think good government should always trump "bi-partisan" government. We have seen in Washington where the President spent a year unilaterally trying to act in a bi-partisan fashion only to have the end result be the very bad policy of the debt reduction super-committee. In short it takes 2 to tango.

I concur with all said above. While it was a meaningful ceremony, our challenges are too complex and the overall economic circumstance too dire to rest on ceremony alone. There are challenges ahead and let us hope that cool heads prevail when the going gets tough and decisions need to be made.
