Official Larchmont Welcome: Ribbon-Cutting at Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty

Although Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty has been in Larchmont since September of last year, the company made it's formal introduction to the community yesterday afternoon.

Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty made its official debut in the Larchmont community yesterday, as Mayor Josh Mandell used the village’s standard oversized scissors to cut the ribbon in front of 150 Larchmont Ave. and welcome the business to the community.

The previous tenant at 150 Larchmont Ave.—real estate office Merritt Associates, which was a Larchmont fixture for over 70 years—was purchased by Rand on Sept. 20, 2010.  The office opened for business in March of this year, but construction and remodeling delayed the official ribbon cutting ceremony until now, said Senior Vice President Arlyne Ashkinos.

With 300 agents throughout the county, Larchmont was “the only part of Westchester that we hadn’t come into yet,” said Branch Manager Alice Horowitz.  In 1999, the family-run real estate brokerage opened in White Plains; neighboring locales include Rye and Scarsdale.

Other locations in New York State are scattered throughout Orange, Rockland and Dutchess counties.

Despite the down real estate market of recent years, Horowitz said, “The market’s been O.K. [recently].  Well-priced houses are still continuing to sell.”

Eight agents work out of the Larchmont location, and homes are available in “all price ranges,” said Horowitz.
