New Rochelle Frat House Pig Has a New Home

Payton was rescued from an Iona College fraternity house and is now living well on a farm.

The call from the New Rochelle Police Department to the New Rochelle Humane Society Sunday was unique: There's a stray pig on North Avenue.

Shelter Manager Dana Rocco said she and another shelter employee responded to the scene to discover a small white pig in the backyard of an Iona College frat house.

She said the residents of the home claimed the pig had “just wandered into their yard a few days ago.”

“Well, we have heard it all now,” Rocco said.

They helped Rocco get Payton, as it was named, into the rescue van and off to the shelter he was taken.

“We gave him a nice warm blanket, some food and a back scratch,” she said. “He really seemed to like that.”

Monday, he kept the staff company in the shelter's front lobby.

A farm sanctuary was contacted and Monday afternoon Payton's stay in the Queen City ended with a trip to a farm.

UPDATE: According to a story in the Journal News, the fraternity brothers said they rescued the pig from a man on Long Island.
