Man Robbed At Gunpoint in Town of Mamaroneck

A 45-year-old man was robbed by a man brandishing a gun on Tuesday night.

A man was robbed at gunpoint in the Town of Mamaroneck by a masked man on Tuesday night, Jan. 17 at 10:20 p.m.

The victim—a 45-year-old town resident—was walking down Glenn Road toward Valley Road, several blocks over from Murray Avenue School, when he was approached from behind by a man who displayed a handgun and demanded that he empty his pockets and hand over the backpack he was carrying, said Lt. Robert Koziak, spokesperson for the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department.

After the man handed over his personal property, the perpetrator fled on Glenn Road toward North Chatsworth.  The perpetrator was described as a black male, 5’7”, 175 lbs, wearing dark clothing and a black mask.

The pilfered property included a computer, iPhone, Kindle, a credit card, some personal papers and $3 in cash.

There were no injuries reported.  The Town of Mamaroneck Police are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact them at (914) 361-6100.

This is insane! We just moved here because it is so safe! I live in this neighborhood and now I can't even walk my dog at night?? Maybe we should take our tax dollars to CT!

If you look at the stats it is very safe. The police need to ensure it stays that way.

I would think that a masked man would arouse suspicion in this neighborhood. It's odd that no one took notice of his unorthodox fashion statement

What is the police department doing about it? Are they taking this seriously?

Why isn't the community being informed? I live up the street and didn't hear of this until I stumbled on it on this website... We get robo calls when the water is brown or snow is predicted, but no notice from the Town when a masked man with a gun is prowling the neighborhood?

MS - I agree with you. I only found out about it on this site. My husband walks home many nights (at 10 with a backpack) from the train. I would feel a lot better if the Town/Police Dept was being more proactive about it. Assuring us that they are taking measures to protect us. Instead nothing. I hear they are more concerned about giving moms at Murray pick up parking tickets. We live at a dead end with lots of trees and wooded areas. I have already called our electrician to install motion lights all around our house. That story of the family in CT who was followed home from Stop and Shop still haunts me.

Agree with both MS and HSH - many people walk this neighborhood from the train station. Would like to hear some discussion about this at the next town board meeting.

Hi Buddy,

I would suggest that you write to Nancy Seligson and propose that this be added to the next agenda. Her e-mail is: townsupervisor@townofmamaroneck.org The board is very interested in encouraging more participation in local government from town residents.

Best,
Stefani Kim

Hi Stefani -

I actually sent an e-mail to Nancy on Sunday and have not received a response yet. They must not be looking for town resident participation on all issues!
