Five years after starting Larchmont-based Madcapz, Carrie Bell’s company is now a licensed vendor of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), a 100,000 member not for profit organization that provides opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy golf.

Bell noted, “I’m thrilled that women golfers across the country have embraced Madcapz women’s caps and visors as a colorful feminine alternative to more traditional women’s golf headwear. We are so excited to be entering this partnership with the premiere women’s golf association, the EWGA.”

Bell’s dilemma started when she was suffering from hair loss related to Grave’s Disease and found the options for women’s head coverings sorely lacking.  And, like the beginnings of many successful businesses, Bell’s initial frustration presented an opportunity to reinvent the marketplace for women with hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia, trichotillomania and other medical conditions.

Bell’s collection of baseball caps for women are made in the U.S. and available in 20 different prints, that Bell sources through fabric houses based on customer recommendations.

The company has also expanded into including visors for one of Madcapz most successful markets; female golf and tennis players.

With no brick and mortar store, Bell sells her caps online and through wholesale retailers.  Her advertising is done through, “word of mouth, Gift Shop Magazine, hospital and oncology boutiques, and social media like Facebook and Twitter.” 

Madcapz supports many charitable organizations for cancers that effect women. The company contributes $3 of every sale of the “HERA” cap to the HERA (Health, Empowerment, Research and Awareness) Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises money for ovarian cancer research and awareness.  Additionally, Madcapz has made donations to the NAAF (National Alopecia Areata Foundation).
