Economist, Author Sylvia Nasar to Read from Latest Book

New York Times best-selling author Sylvia Nasar will read from and discuss her latest book entitled, “Grand Pursuit: The Story of Economic Genius," at the Larchmont Public Library on Sunday.

On Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Larchmont Public Library, New York Times best-selling author Sylvia Nasar will read from and discuss her latest book entitled, Grand Pursuit: The Story of Economic Genius.

Nasar is best known for her book, A Beautiful Mind. Published in 1998, the Pulitzer Prize-nominated biography focused on the life of economist and mathematician John Forbes Nash, Jr., who won the Nobel Peace Prize in Economics in 1994. The book won the National Book Critics Circle Award for a biography that year as well.

Nasar is the Knight Chair in Business Journalism at Columbia University. Her latest book discusses the development of modern economics, beginning with Charles Dickens and Henry Mayhew observing and reporting on the conditions of the poor in 19th century England.

The New York Times said it is “the one book on the economy that everyone should read,” while Gregor Hunter of The National called it, “A timely reminder of the importance of the so-called dismal science…Written almost as a novel and aimed at those without a background in economics, the book charts capitalism's evolution through the eyes of the people who invented it.”

The Sunday event is free and open to the public, with complimentary wine and snacks at 3:30 p.m.
