Mamaroneck Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) is run by volunteers, so the organization is always looking for new members who are interested in assisting patients requiring emergency care and operating an ambulance.
All necessary training will be provided by MEMS. Upon acceptance, candidates will become probationary members, when they will learn about MEMS and how to operate the equipment carried on the ambulance; receive free regular training, including CPR and First Aid certification; and take a skills test to demonstrate working knowledge of the equipment. Once the test is completed, the member may be eligible for driver training and become a full MEMS member.
Members are requested to donate six hours of their time per week, and to attend 75 percent of the organization's monthly meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of every month, and 75 percent of training drills.
There are several membership levels, which depend on the members commitment to the organization. Members who are between 16 and 18 years of age can join the Junior Corps. They must have a parent or legal guardian sign the application form to be considered for membership.
Members who are not interested in riding on the ambulance but would like to volunteer their time at other capacities can get the non-riding membership. For more information on these types of memberships, contact MEMS. To join, fill out a form here.
You can submit your application online, print it and mail it, or fax it to 914-698-7315. Once your application is received, someone will contact you to schedule an interview. MEMS asks that you bring your driver's license and any training certificates that you may have to the interview.
